The recipe for a good hot chocolate. This classic drink that can be prepared in many different ways.
You can use a cocoa powder that you mix with any milk base with a little sugar. Another variation is to use grated dark chocolate that is melted in the same way in warm milk. With this method you will get a fuller drink as chocolate naturally contains cocoa fat which is otherwise reduced from a cocoa powder. Often you also have a little sweetness in the chocolate, depending on the percentage you choose to cook the hot chocolate with.
We think the secret behind the perfect hot chocolate lies in combining both of these methods. In our chocolate café in Österlen, we have something we call Fabrikens Drickklad where we have come up with the perfect hot chocolate mix in our opinion. It has become a popular drink on the menu that you can now also buy pre-mixed and pre-sweetened in the web shop.
Or try our recipe below. You can then try preparing the hot chocolate from different origins by using our pre-grated chocolate .
Recipe for two cups of hot chocolate
Ingredients
3 tbsp Cocoa powder
3 tbsp Dark chocolate (at least 70%)
1 tablespoon of sugar
A pinch of salt
6 dl Milk (can be exchanged for any plant-based milk base for a vegan version)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
For the meticulous: A kitchen thermometer
For the adults: A splash of dark rum and you have the perfect evening drink.
How to use
- Finely grate the dark chocolate so that you have about 3 tbsp.
- Mix with cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla powder
- Whisk the mixture in a saucepan with a splash of the milk so that you get a liquid cream.
- Pour in the rest of the milk and heat over medium heat.
- It is important that the milk does not start to boil. That is why we usually measure the temperature. 70 degrees is a perfect hot chocolate temperature.
- Feel free to top with a dollop of cream or a dash of rum for the adults in the party.
